Sale: The annual EGC Spring Plant Sale at the NRT Sheep Pasture will be held on Saturday,
May 11, 2002 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Volunteers are needed to help that day from
8:00am until we close at 12:00pm. You don't need any gardening experience to help, as we
need cashiers and helpers too. We will also need help on Friday, May 10th from
about 3:00pm to 6:00pm to collect the plants our members drop off, make sure they
are labeled, categorized, and priced. We will be selling annuals, hanging baskets, some purchased perennials, and our garden-dug perennials. We need every member to dig perennials out of their gardens for the sale. Anything such as ground covers, lilac shoots, vines, hens and chicks, common and unusual perennials will be happily accepted. You can dig your plants anytime now, as long as they are coming up. Please hold on to them until the day before the sale (Friday, May 10th) and bring them directly to Sheep Pasture. If you must drop them off sooner, you can bring them to Darya's house at anytime. Please label them. Sometimes we can't identify a plant, so even a common name is helpful. We also need volunteers to meet at the Everett's house (34 Sunset Dr., Easton) to help dig daylilies: 9:00-10:30am Saturday, May 5. Would members who have garden (or little red) wagons please bring them for use on the sale day, Saturday? Please be sure to put your name somewhere on it so we can return it to the rightful owner. See you at the Sale! New England Spring Flower Show: Congratulations to Nancy Cohenno who won four ribbons at the 2002 New England Spring Flower Show with some of her lovely house plants. In Amateur Horticulture Nancy won a first place/Cultural Award for her beautiful "String of Pearls." She also won three seconds for an Orchid, a "Rosary Vine," and a "Golden Pothos." Once again the tireless Joyce Holster, and her committee, did another phenomenal job setting up the Amateur Horticulture staging. Joyce would like to encourage all club members to enter something in the Amateur Horticulture division next year. Garden Walks: It's that time of
year
time to start thinking about our gardens and, of course, showing off our
gardens. Garden Walks Chairman, Joyce Holster, is looking for a member who is willing to
have a small group of us tour your garden on June 1st. The Summer Garden Walks program is
an informal tour of several members' gardens on the first day of each month during the
summer. If you have a garden small or large, new or mature or perhaps would just like some
advice on your garden, please give Joyce a call to sign up. This has always been a nice
way for members to keep in touch over the summer, and see what others have been doing all
summer in their gardens. Joyce is also planning a trip to see the gardens at the DeCordova
Museum for June 1st as well. Interested members please call Joyce for details. New Member Tea: The New Member Tea this year will be held on Sunday, April 28th at 2:00 p.m. at the home of Kay Fulcher. This is a chance for the board members to welcome new members and fill them in on all of our activities. All new members from the past year will receive an invitation. Please contact Membership Chairman, Mary Beth Meyer if you do not receive an invitation in the mail, and please remember your RSVP. New Members: Welcome to new members Tracey Fidriti, Claudia Peters, Kim Martinez and returning member Linda Hallamore, all of North Easton. Dues Dues Dues: It's that time of year again. Dues are due and payable to Membership Chairperson Mary Beth Meyer by May 30th for the 2002-2003 year. Please see Mary Beth at the next meeting or forward a check to her by mail. Dues are still only $15.00 for active members and $35.00 for associate membership (you must have been an active member for at least five years to qualify for associate member status). Nominations: Any EGC board member who plans to go off the board for the 2002-2003 garden club year, please inform Nominations Chairperson, Kay Fulcher, so that she can fill your position. Living Wreath Workshop: The May meeting is going to be a "living wreath workshop." We will be making a wreath out of "hens and chickens," (sempervivum and echeveira). They are perennial, low-growing succulents that thrive in arid conditions so they are perfect for this wreath. We will have a sample of one at the April meeting. The cost should be under $20.00. This will include the form, soil, moss, the plants and any other materials needed. There will also be a sign up sheet at the April meeting. Call Nancy Cohenno and leave a message if you want to make a wreath and are not going to be at the April meeting. |
