| Board Meeting: The February
meeting of the executive board will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2000 at 7:30pm at
the home of Nancy Cohenno. Seed Swap: The "Great Seed Swap" scheduled for February has been postponed to Saturday, April 1 at 10:00am. It will be held at the home of Davie McNamara. Bring seeds from your garden or seed packets and trade for others. Grapevine Topiaries: The grapevine topiary workshop has been postponed to a date TBA as this workshop must be done in a garage and the weather has taken a sudden frigid turn. Downtown Window Boxes: The first project proposed by the newly formed capital expenditure committee will be to put window boxes along Main Street throughout the downtown, and fill them with seasonal plant material. Parade Float: As part of the celebration of Eastons 275th anniversary this year, there are plans for a large-scale parade on Sunday, June 18th. The EGC is forming a committee to build a sort of "garden on wheels" float for the occasion. Our float expert, Sandy Medeiros (a Rose Bowl Parade alum) has been drafted to head the team. Any member interested in participating, or anyone with any interesting garden ornaments which might be borrowed for the float please sign-up at the February meeting, or contact Sandy as soon as possible. This project will require quite a bit of construction and we will need all the hands available to help. EGC Show: The EGC cable channel 3 television show has been changed to now appear on Wednesdays at 6:30pm. We are looking for a volunteer to tape the show each week and bring the tapes in to be available to the membership from our library. The club will provide the tapes. There are many members who do not live in Easton and would like to see the show. Please contact Gloria Freitas for details. Garden Gloves: Spring is coming fast and the EGC will be selling wonderful garden gloves just in time. The gloves are very sturdy, waterproof and keep your hands free from perspiration. The price will be $8. This will be a great fund-raiser for the club, so dont be tempted by any you may see elsewhere. NRT Update: The NRT fair date has been changed this year due to the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah falling on October 1st. The new date is Sunday, September 24th. Please mark your calendars for this date change. Also, please keep saving large plastic bags, dry cleaner bags and any tissue paper you may get. There will be some "take home projects" at the February meeting for us to get a head start on the fair. The New England Spring Flower Show: The New England Spring Flower Show will be held March 11th-19th. There may still be some open classes available for horticulture and arranging. For more information contact Mass Hort. at (617) 536-9280 x212 or e-mail masshort@masshort.org. The EGC has donated eight tickets to the show to be used by the residents of Parker Terrace and Elise Circle. See more info in "Garden Walks." |
