Window Boxes: It's window box time again! We will be meeting on Sunday morning, November 18th at 10:00am, in front of Freitas Associates to replace the mums with fresh greens, and berries. The more the merrier - please come and help and get into the holiday spirit!

House Tour: A few notes from Nancy and Vivian regarding the upcoming Christmas House Tour:

1.) If anyone has materials that belong to the club, please contact Nancy to make arrangements for storage in the new and improved "clubhouse" (a.k.a. - Louie's cellar). That way they are available for all members' use.

2.) Any member who is able to sell tickets to the House Tour, or needs ticket request forms for friends and family, please contact Nancy Cohenno or Vivian Bissett. (Ticket request forms can be downloaded from our website at www.eastongardenclub.org.)

3.) A reminder to members - anyone working ten or more hours on the House Tour is eligible to receive a free ticket. Tickets will be given out at the discretion of the chairmen of the houses. There are many opportunities for people to contribute their time including picking greens and hosting the days of the Tour.

Doorway Contest: This year the annual holiday doorway contest judging will be held on Saturday, December 15th. The contest is open to any member or resident of Easton. Some artificial materials and adornments are allowed, but greens must be fresh, and natural materials are encouraged. For details or to sign up, please contact Gloria Freitas by December 10th.

New Member: The EGC is happy to welcome new member Mary Spellman of South Easton.

Pot Luck Supper: Last year's Pot Luck Supper was so much fun that the January meeting will be another dinner. We will be signing people up at the November meeting to bring entrées, desserts, and other necessities such as bread, vegetables, and condiments. If you would like to volunteer and won't be attending the meeting, please contact Nancy Cohenno to sign up.

I often try to solicite articles or garden tips for this space in the newsletter. This month I have a story of my own to tell. It is the story of how one ugly, little spot was beautified by a community effort right here in Easton. I live on Longview Drive at the corner of Allen Road. There is a traffic Island in front of my home. It had bothered me since we moved in here 18 months ago that this entrance to my neighborhood was quite an eye sore. One day a neighbor suggested to me that the Longview Estates residents are very much a "community" and that they would support a project to revitalize this area. So, Darya Cotter and I shamelessly collected money (and sent our cute children out to collect money) from our neighbors. They were so excited to have us planning this project, that they were very generous with their donations. Our husbands jumped in and meticulously excavated the area, removing gravel and diseased shrubs, and putting in new loam. They worked tirelessly, giving up their Columbus Day weekend, to help us replant the island. Our children and a few neighbors joined us in planting 17 new shrubs, 200 daffodil bulbs, ivy, mums and spreading mulch. We even had a generous neighbor take down the rusty street sign and replace it with a handsome, new wood pole. In short, our island had quite a transformation. It went from a weedy mess to a thing of beauty. Even better that the result was the process. It was a gratifying experience to work shoulder to shoulder with my new neighbors, friends, and family members, making one little piece of Easton more lovely to view.

If any member has a story for this page, or gardening advice, I am always happy to have contributions.
