| "Unity
Close": There will be tour of the gardens of "Unity Close" hosted
by the current owners of the historic home on Main Street on Wednesday, September 15 at
10:30am. Please sign-up with Gloria Freitas at the September meeting, or give her a call
if you wish to attend. Tree Plaques: As part of our commitment to horticultural education, the board of the EGC has voted to fund the placement of plaques on the trees at the Sheep Pasture which will name and give facts about each tree's species. We hope they will be in place in time for this year's NRT Harvest Fair - so look for them! Horticultural Hints?: We are currently seeking volunteer contributors to the EGC Web Site willing to write up occasional columns about seasonal garden information. Any members with an interest in sharing ideas please contact Robin Kallfelz for details. Christmas House Tour: The 1999 Christmas House Tour of the Langwater Mansion is in full preparation. This is going to be a huge event for the club and everyone's participation is critical to make it a stunning success. If you have not been contacted to work on a committee please see Tour Chairperson Jan Fowler or Design Chairperson Gloria Freitas to sign-up. Dues! Dues! Dues!: Dues for the 1999/2000 year were due in May. However, many members have still not turned them in. Members will not receive a new 1999/2000 EGC Book unless your dues have been paid. Please see our new Membership Chairperson Mary Beth Meyer at the next meeting to settle your account. |
*Notice of Meeting
Change*: Please note in your EGC Books that the day of the November
meeting has been changed from our usual Wednesday to the Monday of that week. More
reminders will follow
Lug-a-Mug: Just a reminder from our Hospitality Committee to the membership to try and remember to bring your own mugs to the meetings for coffee or tea just a tiny way we can conserve paper products and not fill up the landfills. Seed Swap: As there will be a seed swapping/ planting workshop at Davies house sometime in February, members who think they may participate are asked to save interesting seeds now from your gardens. Hydrangea Topiaries: A workshop will be held in January or February to make Hydrangea Topiaries. Any member interested in this workshop must gather a few materials now. You will need grapevine approximately a dozen or so 6 lengths (or as much as you can pick up in an armload). You will also need to save some of your dried hydrangeas approximately five or six stems. The pots will be provided unless you have a special one you wish to use. More information will follow in the coming months. www.eastongardenclub.org: Have you visited the EGC Web Site lately? You will find a new page from our Garden Walks Chairperson Joyce Holster. Joyce lists upcoming Garden Walk events and gives brief reviews of places she has visited give it a look! By the way, did you see the mention of the EGC web site in the Easton Journal on August 27, 1999? You can see the article at the Easton Journal web site by clicking here. |

| NRT FAIR UPDATE Monday September 27 thru Thursday September 30, 9:00am till 6:00pm we will be working in my garage creating wreaths, mixed bouquets and some arrangements. I will need many people to help pick pampas grass, rose hips and other plant material. We will be gathering grapevines for wreaths, too. If you don't know how to make a simple grapevine wreath, this is a great opportunity to learn. I need many people to help with the usual mundane jobs such as making many price tags, tagging the wreaths and making posters. There is something to do for every level of expertise. Don't forget we will need to remove the outer skins from lunaria (money plant). This is an extremely time consuming job. We also have to strip the leaves from the bittersweet. Friday October 1st will be for organizing and loading vehicles for our setup on Saturday morning October 2. We should start arriving at Sheep Pasture around 8:30am on Saturday. Those experts that set up the tents last year are invited back again. We always need a good laugh. Sunday October 3 is fair day! I need people from 8:30am on to set up the booth and get ready for the customers. The fair ends at 5:00pm. As usual, we will feed all our workers lunch during the week and the day of the fair. This is an event in which 100% of our active members should participate, especially the day of the fair. We need many helpers because the booth is lively. Even one hour is greatly appreciated. Wear your EGC aprons -- if you don't have one, call Karen Grant and she'll sell you one for $12.00. I will have sign up sheets at the next meeting. But, if you can't make it Wednesday night, please call me and leave a message on my machine. |
